Jessica and Todd's Engagement Session

Our First Wedding of 2009 already!

Jessica and Todd's wedding day has been graced with a beautiful, bright and sunny winter day! The sky is beautiful, and the temperature is very comfortable! Unless of course, you are Jessica or one of her bridemaids... otherwise, it really is a no-hat kind of winter day if you ask me!

Today is a stark contrast from the melting hot Sunday in September when I photographed their engagement session at Little Cataraqui Conservation Area.

Take a look!

New Year's Resolution

I have receievd many a complaint regarding our lack of postings...Well not many.

Just from a few family and friends. O.k. Just one friend.

But her complaint (more of like an unquestionable hint I'd say), and albeit quite valid, was quite firm.

So my New Year's resolution is to post more.

Sometimes it can be so overwhelming staying abreast of business and family life, that on many an occassion, I rarely know what's going on. Let alone share these details publically. LOL

It has been fun when I have gotten the chance to sit and post, and upload photos. I just need to remember this.

Please note, that my resolution does not promise I will post daily... just more than I have been! :)

So, my resolution will kick off with two postings in 15 minutes!

Family Portrait - Sept 11/08

I had the honour of shooting a fellow workmate's family, including their 6 month old little girl. I had unfortunately procrastinated and was hoping to get more of a newborn session, but they were patient with me and I popped over to their house mid September.

Shooting was a pleasure and as simplistic as possible, so we didn't test baby's patience. I used as much natural light as a could coming in from the patio door and upstairs window. This is where the 50mm f/1.4 comes in very handy with its speed and shallow depth of field. If additional light was needed I bounced with an on camera flash Speedlite. We stayed in their living room for most of the shoot and then headed upstairs to get some tender moments between mother and daughter in the rocking chair.

All our love guys!

This is Heather and Brian...

Steven and I photographed Heather and Brian's engagement photos last fall.

It was such a pleasant autumn day at Heather's parents' cottage. The colours were beautiful, and they were such a fun a couple to photograph!

Tomorrow is their wedding day!

The ceremony will be held at St. George's Anglican Church in Whitby, and the reception is at Royal Ashburn Golf Course a little north of there.

Even though whitby is only a few hours from Kingston, it is always exciting to travel somewhere new.

"So, what's with the black birdcage veil??" you ask...

Well, when we knew we were switching our business name, I wanted an image that was reflective of our new name, Unveiled. A typical veil just wouldn't suffice, and I (Katie) became fixated on the idea of incorporating a 1940's semblance into our new website.

So the birdcage veil, a black one, I figured, would make a strong, creative, and memorable impression. And I love the play on words! The idea that, not only are we 'unveiling' our photographic work, but that we are also revealing our clients' images.
Our web designer, Tim Forbes, pulled together the birdcage veil with a vintage post card look, and we couldn't be more thrilled with the outcome - let us know what you think!

Welcome!

My husband and I have been greatly blessed since we took a leap of faith four years ago and began our photography business: at the end of this, our fourth year, we will have photographed over 80 weddings, and countless family portraits. This seasonal profession has allowed me to stay at home full time with our children, and fully support Steven in his separate career.

Initially our business began as Fabricated Photos. We have met incredible people along the way and remain honoured that bridal couples continue to entrust us with preserving their wedding day memories. It is a great honour to book a wedding solely on a word-of-mouth basis. We do not take our profession lightly, and approach each booking with sincerity and gratitude.

This past year Steven and I began to slowly overhaul our existing business both in name and image. We felt we had outgrown Fabricated Photos, and after careful thought and consideration, our new business name, Unveiled Photography, revealed itself.
